What are they?

Picture
Grasslands are open areas where grasses are the main plant and where there are not that many trees. Grasses rule because they are better able to grow in hot and dry weather where rain in spring and summer is low. Grassland soil is deep with lots of nutrients. The roots of grasses usually go far into the soil. In North America, the prairies had huge herds of bison who fed on the grasses. These herds are almost gone now, and most of the prairies have been changed into the best farming region on earth. Crops grow well in the soil.
